Share the spin, split the cost.
Síob is Irish for a lift. Say it “sheeb”.
Lifts around Cork, and between Cork and Dublin, with people who are already making the trip. Passengers chip in a fair, capped share of the running costs. That’s it.

How it will work
Síob is a community for sharing car journeys you’re making anyway, and splitting what they cost.
-
Drivers share their empty seats
People who are already driving into the city, around the county or up to Dublin post the trip they’re making, in advance, with the seats they have free.
-
Passengers chip in a fair share
Passengers going the same way contribute towards the running costs. Síob caps each contribution by distance, so nobody is out of pocket and nobody is paid to drive.
-
Everyone is a verified member
Members confirm their phone and email, and rate each other after every trip, so you know who you’re travelling with.
Fair by design
What a passenger pays a driver is a contribution, not a price. It covers part of the petrol and wear for the distance shared, and it can never go above the cap.
Example only
Cork to Dublin, about 260 km, petrol car, 3 seats offered
at most ~€21.60 a seat
- How
- A fair share of running costs per km, divided by seats
- Rounding
- Always down, to the nearest 10 cent
- Driver’s choice
- Can be less, or free
Illustration, not a quote. Rates will be confirmed before launch.
- No surge. The cap is the same at 8 am on a wet Monday as at noon on a Sunday.
- No tips, no extras. No luggage fees, no detour fees.
- The driver can’t go above the cap. Síob works it out from the distance, the car and the seats offered.
- Síob’s own booking fee is separate. It will be shown on its own line before you book, never mixed into the driver’s contribution.
Travelling with people you can check

- Verified phone and emailEvery member will confirm both before they can book or offer a lift.
- Reviews after every tripDrivers and passengers will rate each other, and you’ll see ratings before you travel.

- Share your tripYou’ll be able to send your trip to someone you trust so they can follow along until you arrive.
Questions
When does Síob launch?
When it’s ready and the legal checks are done. We won’t rush it. If you’re on the waiting list, we’ll email you.
Is this a lift-for-hire service?
No. Nobody on Síob drives for a living or for a wage. Drivers are making the trip anyway and simply share their empty seats. Passengers contribute towards the running costs, and Síob caps that contribution so it never goes above a fair share of what the trip costs to run.
What does it cost to join the list?
Nothing. Joining the waiting list is free and doesn’t commit you to anything.
Who can drive? Who can travel?
Drivers will need to be 21 or older, with a full licence and insurance. Passengers will need to be 18 or older.
Can I leave the list?
Yes, any time. Send one email to the contact address at the bottom of this page and we’ll delete your details. Every email we send you will also tell you how to leave.
